Almost done r
egistering members for our 2012 CSA!

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, which is a business model that ensures a relationship between farmer and consumer like no other. Customers purchase a "share" of the harvest at the beginning of the season. In exchange, they come to the farm each week to pick up their portion of the harvest. The farmer benefits by having cash flow at the beginning of the season when expenses are greatest. By knowing when customers will be coming, the farmer can harvest shares as close to their arrival as possible, ensuring the veggies are the highest quality. Shareholders get to experience the constantly changing mosaic of seasonal veggies throughout the full growing season.

We look forward to growing with you!

Here's what people are saying about our CSA:

"I will admit I am not a big veggie fan, so the idea of joining a CSA was a bit challenging, what would I do with them all? But I tried it and I am now a repeat customer! The first time I met Kristen, it was like I was family...the ones you are happy to see. Each week there were clear directions as to what choices I had and how much I should take. The Herrick CSA also introduced me to veggies I never would have purchased on my own. Because of the CSA I eat radishes, kale and squash, way before Dr. Oz said it was what I should eat! And then there are the tomatoes, previously I never like tomatoes, but quickly I became addicted to their heirlooms. Freshly picked beans and peas still warm from the sun became dinner, raw corn my mid afternoon snack. And because we had more than we could eat in a week, I began to freeze them. Now all winter we eat veggies that I know how and where they were grown and how they were preserved. The only down side is, I just cannot buy veggies from a grocery store anymore. They taste old, and I have no idea how many people have handled it before I bought it. With Herrick CSA, I know that there was only 1 other person who handled my veggies, the person who picked it from the plant." -Sue

"We started the Herrick Farm CSA in its infant year and haven't looked back. At first, supporting local farms just felt like the right thing to do. After one summer, we realized the value was not only beneficial to local farming and the environment, but also it is beneficial to our taste buds! The fresh vegetables are amazing. Broccoli, fresh cut and severed for dinner tasted so good that even my fussy children loved it! My kids eat vegetables that friends' children refuse to try. Friends have told us, "That is the best salad I have ever had!" Our bounty of fresh vegetables have opened our eyes to new recipes as well. Our gazpacho ingredients all came from the farm and couldn't be more delicious. Thank you Herrick Family for all the hard work you do - it couldn't be more appreciated!" -Gina

"My family has been participating in the CSA at Herrick Farm since day one. Each year the program gets better and better. My kids and I look forward to picking up our shares each week. Our experience has been wonderful!! Kristen and her family do an amazing job. It is a great way to enjoy an abundance of fresh tasty vegetables, meet wonderful people and to support our local farmers. I have recommended this CSA program to my family and friends." -Jeanine

"I have been a member of Herrick Farm's CSA since its inception. The produce and fruit are excellent and Kristen is a hard working farmer and quite generous. She always makes sure each and every member is happy. I feed my entire family for a year on my share. This requires freezing and canning. Believe me it is well worth the effort. I feel my family is safer since I can control the way we eat. Fresh food not loaded with chemicals."

"I found Herrick Farm on a totally different mission, didn't even know about the CSA. I was just trying to help them adopt a resuce dog. My mission failed (thanks to the rigidity of the rescue group) but the family't commitment to sustainable farming and their pride of place impressed me. I had already signed up with a different CSA that year, but I signed up for their CSA too. Good choice! Rain or shine, Kristen and the whole family were there making it happen! As a 9-5er, I loved my weekly trips to the farm. Soul restored! My only regret: I missed their first year...but am going back for year 4!"
